Prémios do Ano - 2009

And after a long lazyness period, here are the winners of last year's "awards of the year". Actually, I have been thinking about this and the more I think of it, the more I believe that the year should start either on the 21st of March (HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYBODY!!!!!) or on the 1st of April... It has to do with nature's cycles that I feel we are more tuned to, than we recognise. Anyway, here are the results. This year didn't have that many voters, but it really doesn't matter. If you don't vote the ones I vote end up winning, so we always have a winner anyway... But I digress...

Album of the Year
Both Animal Collective and The XX got 3 votes, Franz Ferdinand got 1. Animal Collective wins on the tiebreaker criteria.

Movie of the Year
Avatar got 3 votes, a write-in candidate almost won (Up, which I didn't even see, but will try to catch at some point) with two votes. Watchmen, Whatever Works and another write-in, Inglorious Basterds, got one vote each. "Austrian" movies Brüno and Das Weisse Band got ignored... So technically revolutionary Avatar wins.

So here I have a problem... Cardozo and Hulk get two votes each and the tiebreaker criteria (my vote) doesn't solve it, because I voted for one of the other two who had one vote each (Aimar and Saviola). So I guess they both win it...

Well... again, and I imagine for a long time, Cronaldo won this thing. It's difficult for any other to win this... Unless we were Spanish: have ever heard that joke? "One Spanish says to the other: Di Stefano is the best player in the world!!! And one of the best of Spain..." Well, I'm not Spanish, so Cronaldo will continue winning this for a while... Bruno Alves also got a vote (and from a Benfica supporter - that's odd!).

Prémios do Ano 2009

This year, a bit late, but allowing for all year to be considered. Taking into account my busy December, this year it made sense to do this review really at the end of year and not in mid-December.
As you may know, every year, I give virtual awards to my favorite things. But I do it in a very democratic way. I ask the opinions of my friends.
For the second time (due to the tendency of having everytime a bigger percentage of non-Portuguese speaking friends), this vote is done in English.
So this is the 2009 edition of the Awards of the Year (in Portuguese, Prémios do Ano 2009).

So here are the results of this year's Prémios do Ano!

Maybe I should give them a name, eheheh!

In any case, here goes:

Album of the year
This was a surprise. First of all because I saw them by accident and was absolutely convinced that it was something original and of good quality (even though I can understand why some people might hate them). So with 6 votes, VAMPIRE WEEKEND's homonimous album was the Album of the year.
dEUS came second with 3 votes, Cut Copy and Nick Cave had 2 and MGMT, Wave Pictures and... aham... (argh...) Paulo Gonzo... had 1 each.

Movie of the year
As usual, Movie of the year goes to a super-heroe movie. This time, the almost universally pleasing THE DARK KNIGHT, with 7 votes. My favorite, "Be Kind, Rewind"came second with 5 votes. Write in candidate "Wall-E" and "Iron Man" both got 2 and 1/3 votes, "Get Smart"1 and 1/3 and last (maybe a bit unfair as it was really the best from that director that I've seen in years)... "Vicky Christina Barcelona" with... MINUS 1 vote! Ouch...

This was the most contested category. Here, all nominees had (positive) votes and it had to be my vote to break the tie. So, with 5 votes (including mine), THERE WILL BE BLOOD won. With the same 5 votes, "Into the Wild" was a very close and deserved second. Then "Juno" and "No Country for Old Men" came third with 3 votes each. Finally, Persepolis had 2 votes.

Comic Book of the year
In a surprise landslide win, THOR got 5 votes (out of 7)! It is deserved, although my favorite "All Star Superman" is possibly the best story of the character... ever. "Astonishing X-Men" also had a well deserved vote.

Portuguese League Footballer of the year
Non-Portuguese voters might had a problem with this category, but the voting was pretty much straightforward. With 6 votes, LISANDRO LOPEZ won. Next came Lucho Gonzalez and Simon Vukcevic with 2 votes. Bosingwa and write-in vote Oscar Cardozo got 1 vote.

Portuguese Footballer of the year
CRONALDO won again, this time with 7 votes. And I guess he'll win for a few years more, as no one seems to be close to him, as he his possibly the best player in the world. Second came Ricardo Carvalho with 2 votes. Bosingwa, Simão and ironic write-ins Quim and Petit with 1 vote each completed the fold.

Prémios do ano - 2008

Yes, it's time again. For another edition of my blog's awards of the year! And this time... in English! Why? So just that other friends beyond my Portuguese group of friends may vote. I will try to MAKE people vote, so I guess it will be easier to get more votes if I expand the base of potential voters.
So how does this work? I nominate 5 "candidates" in each of the voting categories. These obviously reflect my tastes. In any case, you also may put a write in "candidate". But if you do not want to think, just vote in one of the ones I put there. You can also suggest a new category. We've had that before as well. You can also vote for any number of categories you like. Maybe you just care about music or cinema and don't have a clue about Portuguese football or comic books). Feel free to vote in any number of categories you want and ignore the others. The votes are done in the comments section.
At some point in mid-January, I will count the votes each nominee has and obviously the one who gets more wins. My vote serves as a tie-breaker, but it is very likely that my favorites do not win at the end.

Cá estão os resultados das votações para os prémios do ano! Fica como critério de desempate o meu voto, já que os prémios são no meu blog. A bola é minha, o jogo acaba quando eu levar a bola para casa!

Teve tantos votos (2) como o de White Stripes e de Goldfrapp, mas como eu votei nele, ganhou pelo critério de desempate utilizado.

Teve três votos, contra dois de O Fiel Jardineiro, o meu preferido. Mas fica a prova de que os prémios não vão para os meus preferidos, mas sim para quem VOCÊS votam.

Teve três votos contra 2 de Hotel Rwanda e um de Torremolinos 73, que ainda não deve ter estreado aqui e por isso é que não ganhou!

Teve dois votos (um dos quais um "concordo contigo") enquanto Desolation Jones e Defenders tiveram um voto cada, mas mais para os autores do que para os comics.

Obrigado a todos os que votaram, colocaram votos que não nos que eu nomeei, inventaram categorias novas (melhor concerto, por exemplo) e disseram o que bem lhes apeteceu. Para o ano há mais, se o blog durar até lá (não vejo porque não).
